Haruki Murakami

There are always those things that you hold on to for longer than you should. A boyfriend, a grudge, a failure.

I think Haruki Murakami says it perfectly. If it is meant to last, then it will. If it doesn’t, then it wasn’t meant to be. And what time doesn’t fix, you have to.¬†You can’t just sit around, waiting for all your problems to be solved. Sometimes you have to go out and do something about it.

This quote is great. Save it and bring it out on a raining day.

Long Day

Today has been a very long day. It started early. I woke up at 5 am, trying to finish my homework while I ended up going back to sleep. I got to school with an in class essay and Spanish presentation hanging over my head. Around fourth period I got such bad cramps that I curled up on the floor of the chemistry room. During mentors, I laid on the floor in a ball and hoped that the teacher wouldn’t get upset with me. By fifth period, my legs and hands were shaking and I couldn’t safely get up with hanging on to something. Yet I managed to get a great grade on my presentation.
I got home, excited at the prospect of a nap until my mother reminded me that I had to drive her to her eye appointment in Fort Wayne. I spent the appointment curled up in the backseat taking my much needed nap.
Sounds like a rough day, right? It gets worse. I was driving home. It’s dark and raining. I pull up to an accident. There are cop cars and a totaled car. Obviously I slow down. One of the cars behind the cop car pulled out and I slowed down to let him go. But I kept moving. I had a green light and as I was approaching the stoplight, the next car decided to pull out as well. I never saw a turn signal and he pulled into my passenger side door. Of course I was driving my mom’s new car for the first time.
But thankfully my mom was there and she handled almost everything. The car was totally drivable and only has some scratches and a dent. It could have been worse but it was still terrifying. The guy that hit us didn’t speak English well and it took a solid hour to get everything figured out. The accident goes under my license since I was driving but the other guy is at fault according to the police report.
I am so happy that my mom was there and that we weren’t hurt. It’s nice to have my first accident out of the way and for it to not be my fault.
Obviously, I have had better days but this one definitely reminded me of all the things that could have happened and didn’t. Someone was watching over my mom and I, for that, I am forever grateful.

“What seems to us as bitter trials are often blessings in disguise.” -Oscar Wilde

PS. Shoutout to Janelle! Happy 18th birthday!! You are by far one of the best people I have ever met. And it doesn’t matter where we end up next year, I know that we will continue to be by each other’s side. Love you!
